Geoffrey Baer’s latest special, “Beyond Chicago from the Air,” explores the Illinois landscape and landmarks from the air – using drone footage to take viewers across the state .

“It was so great to be able to go beyond the borders of Chicago and talk about things that I had never talked about before on my shows. Including things like the Mississippi River, ”Baer said. “I learned a lot about things that I have never been able to explore. “

“We were able to dig into some of the things we’ve talked about before and see them from the air. “

The special characteristics of drone photography, taken by two types of drones, Baer said.

“I didn’t want it to be just a video wallpaper. So our drone camera team has one of these big drones and they can shoot the close-ups, but they also have a first person view, where the drone cameraman puts on goggles and drives it like in a game. video, ”Baer said. .

The special highlights historical landmarks and attractions in the area – from the Indiana sand dunes to the Old Joliet Jail – but it also touches the darker parts of the state’s past.

The new special is a sequel to Baer’s “Chicago from the Air” released last year.
