Midsommer Flight will stage A MIDSOMMER NIGHT’S DREAM in Chicago parks for free this summer

Shakespeare’s beloved comedy was the company’s inaugural production in 2012. Midsommer Flight will celebrate its 10th anniversary by revisiting the play which, in 2012, began the company’s ten-year career as artistic partner with the parks. Chicago Park District, featuring free outdoor summer performances of Shakespeare’s plays. . The company will present A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM from July 15 to August 21, according to the company’s founding artistic director, Beth Wolf, who will direct the magical piece.

The beloved comedy will play at five Chicago parks: two weekends at Lincoln Park; and one weekend each at Gross Park, Touhy Park, Lake Meadows Park, and Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens. Admission is free, but donations are gratefully accepted. New for 2022 will be the addition of Friday evening performances as well as the company’s traditional Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon schedules. The press opening will be Friday, July 15 at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Park (2045 N. Lincoln Park West). The casting and production team will be announced soon.

Midsommer Flight productions are performed in natural sunlight and without amplified sound, as they were in the days of the Bard. Additionally, the company has established a tradition of staging Shakespeare’s comedy TWELFTH NIGHT indoors at the Lincoln Park Conservatory each holiday season (except 2020) from 2015 through 2021.

Midsommer Flight has become one of Chicago’s most beloved and beloved producers of Free Summer Shakespeare. The public is encouraged to come early and bring a picnic to take advantage of this free programming. Reservations are not required but will be available on the company’s website in June for members of the public who wish to receive event reminders, last minute weather cancellation information, COVID updates, etc. . Seats are allocated in order of arrival and spectators can bring their own blankets or chairs.
